A 30-year old man’s legs were chopped after he jumped before a moving train in an alleged attempt to commit suicide near Basai railway station on Monday morning. In another incident an employee of a private company was mowed down after he was unable to spot a train while crossing the track near Dhanwapur railway crossing.

In the first incident, a man from Delhi, identified as Sandeep Kumar, was injured grievously when he allegedly jumped before a train at the Basai railway station. The incident happened around 10 am, and eyewitnesses informed the railway police. Kumar was first taken to the civil hospital, Gurgaon, from where he was referred to the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi as he was critical.

Police did not confirm whether it was a suicide attempt or an accident. Eyewitnesses said Kumar was crossing the track when he was hit by a fast moving goods train near the Basai railway station platform.

“It is not clear whether this was an accident or an attempt to commit suicide as we could not take his statement. His family was informed about the incident and they took him to Delhi for treatment,” Ramesh Chander, SHO, GRP, Gurgaon, said.

Kumar, son of Bajaj Singh, is from Jaffarpur village in Delhi, and his family members reached Gurgaon after being informed. Police are yet to register a case in the incident.
