After hassled residents raised their voices against the erratic power supply and outages, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN) said the outages are planned shutdowns for facilitating the construction activities undertaken by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for underpasses at Iffco Chowk, Signature Tower and Rajiv Chowk. The NHAI is also widening the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway, besides constructing flyover at Hero Honda Chowk.
The DHBVN officials said the agency is fully capable of meeting the peak summer demand of the city.
“The outages that the residents are bearing with are planned ones so as to help the NHAI smoothly carry out its constructions,” said a DHBVN spokesperson on Tuesday, adding that other than these planned ones, there will be no outages either on account of any deficiency in the system or on account of shortage of power.
The discom’s reaction came in the wake of media reports that said frequent power cuts or tripping of power were causing resentment among residents.
Areas such as South City, sectors 17, 30, 31, 43 46, 47, 21,15, New Basti, Patel Nagar and New Palam Vihar are witnessing constant power outages.
Power cuts in these areas two days ago were on account of planned maintenance activity and not due to any fault in the transmission or distribution system, the spokesperson said.
“The supply was snapped to facilitate the work of shifting of power lines coming in the way of construction of underpasses on NH-8. Besides that, the HVPN also had to shut supply on the Badshahpur-Sector 15 power line due to the shifting of towers coming in the way of the underpasses,” he said.
DHBVN superintending engineer Navin Verma said, “We have launched a special drive for maintenance and up-gradation of the transmission system. In the last four months, approximately 1880 metres of line and new conductors have been installed and 154 transformers have been added to the system in Gurgaon. One can call our complaint centre in case there is an outage.”
DHBVN has 24X7 toll free number 1912. Besides that, another toll free number is available as well such as 1800-180-4334.
Lokesh Sharma, resident New Palam Vihar, said, “There was eight hour power cut on Monday in our area and two hour cut on early Tuesday.”
