Gurgaon techie posts pics of slit wrist on Facebook, suicide bid foiled

A ‘suicide’ bid by a 42-year old engineer of a leading IT-firm was foiled on Tuesday after he posted pictures of his slit wrist, a recorded video announcing the act and text of a suicide note on Facebook.

A suicide bid by a 42-year old engineer of a leading IT firm was foiled on Tuesday after he posted pictures of his slit wrist, a recorded video announcing the act and text of a suicide note on Facebook.

Varun Malik, who works as quality lead in Udyog Vihar office of Nagarro Software Private Ltd, posted the message ‘End’ followed by two pictures of his slit left wrist and blood drops on his Facebook wall at 10am on Tuesday. He also shared a recorded video and a message announcing that he was taking the extreme step in all his senses and is not blaming any one for it.

“...I am ending my life because of my internal struggle. I hold no one responsible for it. I have bore the burden for long....,” shared Malik while he was at his home in Karamyogi apartment in Gurgaon’s Sector 10A area. Varun, a bachelor lives with his paralysed father SP Malik and brother, a doctor, at the apartment.

In a Facebook post, Varun Malik announced that he was taking the extreme step in all his senses and is not blaming any one for it.

Soon after the posts were shared on Facebook, his friends including Divya Sharma, Siddharth Uppal and Abhishek Kumar shared SOS message calling for help. By the time police reached the spot, his doctor brother, who found him in the act, had already taken him to a nearby private hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Police said that no case has been registered since Malik was unfit for the statement.

“We came to know about it through police control room. One of his friends had made a call. We will file a case only once he is fit to give a statement,” said inspector Naresh Kumar, the in-charge of Sector 10A police station.

The posts that Malik had shared were removed from his Facebook wall at 3 pm. Police said that Malik had been upset after his mother died a year ago. She had donated her kidneys to him.

A Nagarro source said that Malik was one of the employees, He was usually not found in his elements for quite some time now, he said. Malik is working in Nagarro since October 2012.
