The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), in an attempt to provide free Wi- Fi to residents, will start the process of selecting a suitable and technically viable company on Thursday.
“We are opening a technical bid on Thursday and a financial bid on Monday by which we will allot the job to a suitable company. Within three months of the award, the company will have to make the service available,” said Vivek Kalia, joint commissioner, Municipal Corporation.
The free Wi- Fi is for half an hour per day and can be availed at any point of time in the day, as the service will be on round the clock.
Tata Docomo, Reliance, MTS, Sisco are some of the major companies in the race of bagging this lucrative job to attract users and create their market in internet services.
The free Wi- Fi facility will be available at a minimum speed of 2mbps for the users at four prime locations - MG Road, Sadar Bazaar, Leisure Valley Park and the Sector 29 Market. After the free hour, the company will charge as per their regular tariffs.
Kalia added, “We have made it completely user-friendly so that users can avail the facility and enjoy it.”
For the Wi- Fi, the MCG will only provide the space for locations whereas any infrastructure, furnishings and hardware at each location will have to be taken care of by the company, which will also have to submit a sum of Rs 15 lakh as security deposit.
