Gurgaon: Homebuyers in Ramprastha project protest possession delay

Upset over the inordinate delay in possession of apartments they booked five years ago and seeing no hope of delivery in the near future, the buyers’ group of Ramprastha developers protested on Saturday in front of the company’s office at Sector 44. The buyers were demanding action against non-delivery.
Around 200 buyers gathered around 11 am with banners and pamphlets. The buyers began shouting slogans against the developer demanding possession of their apartments. What annoyed the buyers most was the presence of the police called in by the developer to stop them from entering the office premise and speak with the management.
“The security had locked the office doors. Despite our protest for two hours, not a single representative of the developer stepped outside to talk to us. The developer had called the police to stop us from entering Ramprastha office,” one of the aggrieved homebuyers said.
Ramprastha had launched View, Atrium and Edge projects in 2009.
The buyers said the developer was to deliver around 2,000 flats by 2012 as per the builder-buyer agreement.
Pradip Rahi, president of buyers’ welfare association, Ramprastha, who had purchased a house in Atrium in 2009, said “We have been holding meetings with the builder regularly. Every time, the builder offers an excuse for the delay and promise to deliver within the next few months. However, little has moved on the ground.”
The buyers said the developer launched another project, Skyz and Rise, in 2012 and 2013, offering a total of 1,000 flats. Though they promised to deliver the flats between 2014 and 2015, possession was delayed.
“Five years have passed since the projects were launched, but only the concrete structures are in place. This represents the complete failure of the town planning officials in ensuring the developers deliver projects within deadlines and not cheat homebuyers,” another homebuyer said.
The buyers have already paid 85-90% of the amount.
Dheeraj Babbar, who booked a flat in the Skyz project, said, “All my friends who booked their flats in other projects at the same time have already moved in. However, at the pace Ramprastha is moving, I don’t see my flat being delivered even in 2019”.
Around 400 Ramprastha buyers formed an association to fight for their cause.
The developer could not be reached for comments.
