Gurgaon: Huda assures NHAI of removing petrol pump in way of Iffco Chowk underpass

Officials of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) said they will soon remove the petrol pump from Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) Road that is obstructing the construction of an underpass. The petrol pump is located around 250 metres from the construction site, to the left of the MG Road, when going from Iffco Chowk to Sikandarpur.
Officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that the construction of the underpass has been halted due to the petrol pump.
The NHAI is constructing an L-shaped underpass for traffic going from Huda City Centre to MG Road, via Iffco Chowk Metro station, to take a right turn near ABW Tower to move towards Delhi.
“We have requested Huda to remove the petrol pump so that the construction of the said portion can be completed. Huda has assured that the petrol pump will be removed soon. We have been waiting for its removal for the last six to seven months. The presence of a crematorium and high-tension wires, which are obstructing construction of U-turn flyovers on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, are other issues that are hindering our projects,” AK Sharma, project director (PD), NHAI, said.
Officials said that an alternative site has been identified for the crematorium and the process of shifting it is underway.
The NHAI in November 2016 had written to Huda for removal of utility services such as underground water pipes, sewer lines and petrol pumps falling on the alignments of flyovers and U-shaped underpasses coming up at Rajiv Chowk, Signature Tower and Iffco Chowk junctions.
Pradeep Jakhar, a subdivisional officer (SDO) of Huda, said, “The petrol pump owner had moved court against Huda for allotment of an alternative site. Huda has already offered an alternative site for relocating the petrol pump. However, I will have to check on the next hearing. We will remove the petrol pump soon and Huda has apprised NHAI of the situation.”
The traffic bottleneck at Iffco Chowk has emerged as a major challenge for the police. The underpasses are expected to permanently ease traffic flow for tens of thousands of commuters of new Gurgaon who want to go to Delhi via MG Road.
