A city-based analyst in a multinational bank has alleged that she was raped by a man on the pretext of marriage and was also duped of ₹49 lakh during their relationship. The Gurgaon police registered a case of rape at Sector 29 police station on Thursday against the accused under section 376 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.

The accused was identified as a resident of Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

As per the complaint, the victim studied in a college in Ghaziabad where she had met the accused. However, they lost touch thereafter and in 2013 after a period of 8 years, the victim met the accused by chance at a Metro station in Gurgaon and they again got in touch.

The complainant said when she met the accused, she was working in a bank in Gurgaon. She alleged that the accused started interacting with her and they became friends. During this period, the accused managed to win the confidence of the woman and on the promise of raising a large loan he got her to transfer large sums of money to his account, she said.

During a visit to her flat in Gurgaon, the accused proposed to have physical relation with her, but on refusal he promised to marry her, She said he coaxed her out of her inhibitions on a physical relationship. Thereafter, the accused allegedly forced her to have physical relations with her from June, 2015 to April, 2017 while repeatedly promising her marriage.

During this period, the victim alleged that the accused managed to take large sums of money from her on the pretext of arranging a loan. The amount finally stood at ₹49 lakh. However, on June 10, 2017, the accused met the victim on MG Road Metro station and refused to marry her.

Shattered by the refusal and defrauded of a large sum of money, the victim approached the Sector 29 police station on Thursday. On her complaint, a case of rape under sections 376 and 406 of Indian Penal Code was registered at Sector 29 police station.

“A case has been registered and the matter is being probed. The accused would be arrested soon,” Deepak Saharan, DCP, east, said.
