One person was killed and another injured when a bus collided with a tempo at the Hero Honda chowk on Wednesday. The accident happened on the newly opened flyover at the crossing, where traffic has been allowed to ply on both sides without the central driving, traffic police officials said.

According to the police, a double decker bus coming from Jaipur side hit a speeding Tata Ace tempo coming from the Delhi side around 6.30 am. The driver of the tempo was grievously injured and he died on the spot, a police official said. It is being suspected that the bus driver was coming at high speed and lost control causing the accident.

The deceased was identified as Santosh, resident of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The victim used to deliver milk in Manesar and was engaged in this business for a long while.

Assistant sub inspector Rajesh Kumar, who is investigating the matter said the accused driver fled from the spot leaving behind the damaged vehicle. “The vehicles have been impounded and the accused will be identified and nabbed soon”, said Kumar. A case has been registered at the Sadar police station.

Traffic police officials said the accident at this stretch happened because traffic has been allowed on both sides without any divider. “This is a high speed highway and allowing fast moving vehicles to move on a single road is fraught with danger. More such accidents can happen if this is not stopped”, said a police official.

Meanwhile, in another incident two vehicles met with an accident near Rajiv Chowk on Wednesday. However, none was injured in the accident, police said.
