The state police on Wednesday announced a reward of ₹2 lakh for information on the accused in the gang rape of a 26-year-old Gutrgaon woman last week. The police also questioned six people, including the victim’s friend, and recorded their statements.
Haryana Director General of police, B S Sandhu, said that the police has announced a cash reward of ₹2 lakh for any information leading to arrest of the accused in the case. He said the name of the informer would not be made public. “The investigation is underway and the accused would be arrested soon.
Earlier in the day, Gurgaon police commissioner said, “A reward of Rs 2 lakh has been announced for information leading to the apprehension of criminals involved in the rape case, which was registered in Sector 18 police station, Gurgaon.”
On Monday, the police had constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) led by Amit Kuhar, DCP crime and other senior officials to probe the case. The SIT is scanning the call details of the victim and her friends. The police also released a sketch of one of the accused on Monday evening.
An officer investigating the case said that they had obtained CCTV footage from RWAs and other sources close to where the incident happened. The 26-year old woman alleged that she was abducted by three persons in a Swift car between 2.40am to 2.45am near her house in Sukhrali. She was later dumped in Najafgarh near Delhi.
She approached the Delhi police, who helped her in reaching Gurgaon. The investigation was slow to start with as the time of commission of the crime quoted by the victim was found to be two hours ahead of the actual time. While the victim initially told the police that she had reached Sukhrali around 12.30am, the police, on investigation, learned that she had left Delhi around 2am and reached Gurgaon around 2.40 pm.
The police also found it difficult to ascertain the route taken by the abductors, as the incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday and the victim wasn’t sure of the route that the abductors took.
Sources said the police is grilling the friend of the accused and other suspects to know the exact sequence of events.
Sources in police also said that the victim’s friend from Shahdara with whom she had spent the evening in Delhi had met her, in person, for the first time. Earlier, they were in touch with each other over phone and Whatsapp. After catching a movie with his friend, the victim went to a bar. Later, they headed to Hauz Khas village where they bought cigarettes and paan (Betel leaves).
It was her friend who had booked an Ola cab on Saturday around 2am and dropped her off near her house half-an-hour later in Sukhrali. The woman was allegedly abducted by three men from this point.
An FIR in the case was registered under section 376-D (gangrape), 365 (kidnapping), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
