The city experienced the season’s first pre-monsoon shower on Monday and it brought temperature down by 10 degrees Celsius compared to Sunday.

The 30-minute rain brought the city to a standstill but residents say it was much needed to cancel out the miseries of heat and dust that had engulfed the city in the last few weeks.

With the arrival of monsoon in the southern parts of the country in the first week of June and its gradual onset towards north, many regions are experiencing pre-monsoon showers.

On Monday, the city received 6.2mm rainfall between 8.30am and 5.30pm , while the suburbs of Delhi recorded 9.2mm rainfall.

The pre-monsoon shower brought down the day’s maximum temperature to 27 degrees Celsius, which is normal for the season. The maximum temperature was 37 degree Celsius on Sunday. However, the humidity level continued to stay high at 83% and overcast conditions prevailed throughout the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there were thunderstorms in isolated places in the northern region, including parts of Harayna, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan and Delhi. The IMD has forecasted that showers will continue through the week.

The weatherman also predicted that the temperature will dip in the next few days as monsoon will be hitting the region by the end of the month.

Commuters faced problems on the expressway and within the city as the roads were waterlogged in various parts of the city such as Huda City Centre, Subhas Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Golf Course Road and old Gurgaon road.
