Rain that lasted just three hours was enough to flood Vipul World, a private residential complex in Sector 48, on Tuesday.
The roads adjoining the area were completely submerged under three to four feet of water as a result of which most cars parked on the roadside broke down. According to the weather department, Gurgaon received just 39.6mm of rain on Tuesday. Residents say this was enough to flood the society and also trigger an 8-hour power outage, adding to their woes.
This is not the first time that the housing society loacted along Sohna Road is facing waterlogging on such a large scale. Residents say this is the case after even after the slightest of rain. They are virtually put under ‘house arrest’ for 24 hours after every downpour as the six basements and the lower floors get flooded.
”I have not been able to go to work as the roads were flooded. Also, since the power distribution panel is submerged under water, one could even lose one’s life if he/she dares to go out on the road,’ said Deepak Kumar, a resident.
The mammoth task of removing the rainwater from the six basements has been given to the society’s maintenance team. It took them 20 hours to pump out the water.
RWA president Arun Dagar said, “Our society has 90 houses of which 10 were flooded. The roads are completely damaged and the bitumen layer has been washed away.”
The drainage systems has fared no better. Kirti, a resident, said, “No action was taken by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) officials even after being alerted about the waterlogging several times. Adding to the problems is the work currently under way for the Najafgarh drain.”
