Residents of Sector 45 have moved the Supreme Court alleging that a school is being built on a land allocated for the construction of a road in the area.

The residents claimed that despite several complaints and intervention of the Punjab and Haryana high court, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has failed to construct the 18-metre road. The first hearing of the case is on Friday.

More than 200 families living in the sector are facing a lot of problems because of the absence of a road in the sector.

“Earlier the stretch used to be submerged in sewage water from neighbouring Kanhai village, causing a lot of inconvenience to the commuters. Now, it has been encroached upon for the school. We have submitted to officials a map from the revenue record that clearly shows that the school is being constructed on the sector road,” said Surender Kausaik, general secretary, Sector 45 residents’ welfare association (RWA).

Though the sewage line has been repaired and the leakage has stopped now, the civic authority is not constructing the road.

“Despite several complaints to the Huda, we are unable to use the stretch. The sector is getting divided into two parts because of the school being built on the road,” said Amit Singh Yadav, a resident of Sector 45.

Residents pointed out that as per the town and country planning department, the 18-metre road should remain free from construction.

“We approached the Punjab and Haryana High court but nothing happened. We have applied to the Supreme Court and hopefully we will be able to get the road constructed,” said Pramod Kumar Gupta, another resident of the sector.

Huda officials, meanwhile, said they are looking into the problem.

“We have resolved most grievances of the residents of Sector 45. We will look into this matter,” said RS Bisnoi, executive engineer, Huda, Gurgaon division.
