Haryanvi rapper Fazilpuria, who was held for alleged drink-driving on MG Road last Saturday, said he would address a press conference on July 6 to “expose the police.”
The singer, whose real name is Rahul Yadav, maintains he hadn’t drunk that day.
Deepak Nandal, a friend of Fazilpuria who was with him that night when he allegedly created a ‘nuisance’, told HT that the breath-analyser machine only showed 4% alcohol, which is “not such a big deal”.
“The video which the media is widely circulating shows that the alcohol content in bhai’s (Fazilpuria) body was only 4%. Action is taken when it is above at least 20%. Then why was bhai called tull (drunk) and all sorts of names,” Nandal, who also produces Fazilpuria’s songs, said.
Nandal said the police was only trying to gain some attention and that Fazilpruia would raise these questions in front on the media on July 6.
He said it was ‘amavasya’ (new moon night, considered auspicious) last Saturday and it hadn’t even been six months since the rapper’s mother passed away. “That’s why bhai kept insisting that he hadn’t drunk. We even went to CivilHospital that night and asked them to do a blood test to check the alcohol content in the body, but they said they could only do so if the police ask them,” Nandal said.
Fazilpuria has not filed a claim to get back his white Mercedes, which the police have impounded. The car is still in the Sector 29 police station.
Inspector Vikas Kaushik, SHO of the police station, said that he didn’t have any papers, not even the licence. “I think under these circumstances, it would be quite difficult to get orders from the court to release the Mercedes Benz,” said Kaushik.
Fazilpuria’s spokesperson, on the other hand, said the singer had been busy with his new album and was shooting in Mumbai. He said the required documents, including the RC, insurance, pollution certificate had been given to his lawyer.
“Only the licence was missing, which we will get released from the court on Monday. The court was on holiday. Now that they have opened again, we will get the required documents and get our car released,” the spokesperson said.
