The residents of Sector 31 are forced to use contaminated water for the past several days. Many residents complained that they need to change the filters of their water purifiers frequently and always face health risks.

Water supplied to households is dark brown and stinks. The contamination level has become worse after the Haryana Urban Development Authority repaired the master water pipelines in November.

“I got my purifier serviced last week. In a week’s time the filter candle collected unexpected amount of dirt. It is not feasible to get your water purifiers serviced every week. We can fall sick any time,” said Sunita Mallik, a resident.

According to residents, measures such as chlorination and disinfection have also become ineffective due to high amount of mud in the supply water. “We use this water for drinking purpose. We are exposed to various health risks. Our kids drink the same water. Buying water all the time is also expensive,” said a resident.

“The Huda officials have not cleaned the water tanks as well. It is their responsibility to ensure that residents get access to safe drinking water by maintaining the tanks timely,” said PS Daber, another resident. RS Kataria, sub-divisional officer, Huda, said, “There could be some leakage in the pipes. However, I will immediately look into the matter.”

Huda administrator Anita Yadav also assured that she will take up the matter on priority basis.
