Gurgaon: Woman molested by brother-in-law, assaulted and threatened by his kin
The victim told police that there was a dispute between the family and that of the accused over land
A32-year-old woman from Bass Padamka village in Pataudi has alleged that her brother-in-law groped and harassed her while she was alone in her home on Monday afternoon. When she resisted and fought back, the family of the accused, including his wife, allegedly kicked her and hit her with a brick.
There was ‘some construction work’ going on at Sunita Devi’s (name changed) home on Monday and she was overseeing the work. When the labourers went for lunch, she “picked up some bricks which were lying around”, Suman, assistant sub-inspector of Pataudi police station, said.
While she was busy overseeing work, Devi’s 40-year-old brother-in-law allegedly groped her from behind. “Wo ekdum se chipat gaya and jagah jagah chhune laga (He suddenly caught hold of me and started touching me everywhere),” she said in her complaint.
She was shocked and started shouting. The accused then allegedly picked up a brick and hit her on the head.
Other family members of the accused, including his wife, rushed to the scene and started hitting Devi. “His wife snatched her chain and kicked her repeatedly,” the police said.

Devi’s husband works in a shop nearby and was out when the incident allegedly took place.
“Devi said that there was a fight going on between the families of the complainant and the accused for quite some time. The fight was apparently over some land,” ASI Suman, the investigating officer in the case, said.
Even earlier, the accused had misbehaved with her and also used to abuse labourers working in her house, Devi alleged.
“Since it was a family matter, they initially tried to play down the incident. But she finally filed a complaint on Monday evening,” Suman said.
The Pataudi police registered an FIR under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention), 379B (theft) ,452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code on Monday.
“We haven’t made any arrests as yet. Investigation is on,” the IO said.
