Three men have been arrested by the Gurgaon police for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of a Hissar based folk singer, who was popular across Haryana, on Sunday night. One of the accused had shot a Haryanvi album with the deceases singer -- Joginder alias Lala Saini -- last year, and there was a dispute over money between the two, police said.
A murder case was registered under sections of the IPC and other sections of the Arms Act at Rajendra Park police station on Monday.
The accused are Gaurav, 26, from Rohtak, Mahesh, 26, from Jhajjar, and Sachin alias Chinnu, 21, from Hissar. They were putting up at a rented accommodation in Gurgaon while they planned the crime, police said.
Police said the crime unit of Palam Vihar received information about the accused. As per the lead, a police team, led by inspector Sajjan Singh, set up a check point near Chandu village on the outskirts of Gurgaon.
“Police stopped a Swift car coming from Badli to Gurgaon. The accused, however, fled leaving behind the vehicle but they were nabbed after a short chase. The body of the victim was hidden in the luggage compartment of the car,” Sumit Kuhar, DCP, crime, said.
Lala had suffered three to four gun shot wounds as per the inquest proceedings of the police.
The accused were produced before the local court and taken on remand for questioning, police said.
Police seized three countrymade pistols, four live cartridges and two empty shells and the Swift car from the accused.
DCP Kuhar said Joginder alias Lala was a famous singer from Hissar, and he was abducted and killed over a payment dispute with Gaurav. “The trio thought that Lala had a lot of money and this was the reason Gaurav, who has worked with him in an album, abducted him as they wanted a ransom,” Kuhar said. After realising that the singer could not make them a large payment, they decided to eliminate him, and planned to dump the body in Gurgaon.
ACP Crime Sanjeev Balhara said Gaurav also wanted the singer to pay for his contribution in a Haryanvi album they shot last year. “Lala seemed to be unable to make the payment nor could he pay the ransom, and this led to his murder,” Balhara said.
The trio hatched the plan to eliminate Lala when they went to attend the marriage of Sachin’s relative in Hissar on March 18. The next day, Gaurav asked Lala to come near Jind bypass in Rohtak and abducted him.
On his refusal to pay the ransom, Gaurav snatched his gold ring and chain, and shot him multiple times, leading to his death, police said.
Kuhar said all accused had criminal backgrounds. Mahesh was involved in liquor smuggling. Sachin had cases under the Arms Act against him and he arranged the weapons for the murder.
