Barely 30 metres from where traffic police personnel have been deployed at the Huda City Centre junction, is an illegal autorickshaw stand which causes traffic snarls outside the Fortis hospital here.

At any given time, at least 10 to 12 autorickshaws are parked on the main road, leaving vehicles to ply on a single lane.

Despite the presence of traffic police officials at the junction, commuters said the autorickshaw drivers continue to park on the main road, leading to snarls. Many said the “illegal auto stand” has been functioning here since July.

“Autorickshaws are parked on the main road and encroach an entire lane. As this has narrowed the road width, commuters are facing difficulties. Despite traffic police personnel being present at the junction, they fail to clear the mess,” Sejal Chauhan, a resident of Sector 47, said.

The Huda City Centre junction is one of the most used points in the city. The Huda City Centre Metro station, Fortis Hospital, Taj Vivanta, Unitech Business Park and other corporate offices are located at the intersection, while Iffco Chowk Metro station, Signature Tower, Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, MG Road, Golf Course Road, Bakhtawar Chowk and DLF Phase-4 are in the vicinity of the junction.

Some commuters are perplexed about how auto-rickshaws are able to park their vehicles illegally right under the nose of the traffic police.

“Crossing the 50 metre stretch during peak hours is a nightmare as the autorickshaws throw traffic out of gear and create an artificial crisis. It is surprising that there has been no police action. The police are well aware of the problem,” said Saurabh Kukreja, a resident of Vasant Viharwho works at Signature Tower.

When asked about the problem, traffic police officials said they will attend to the issue immediately.

“Traffic police personnel are deputed at the spot and they will be alerted about the situation. The Huda City Centre is a significant junction and has undergone route changes recently to ensure better traffic flow,” a senior Gurgaon police officer said.
