When residents of South City I had purchased their houses, they thought they had escaped the mess of Huda sectors. They thought a private maintenance agency will keep the local upkeep away from the red tape. However, life turned out to be no better here.
Nearly 24,000-25,000 people reside in this so-called posh locality which includes 17 blocks. Residents allege that they get water supply only for one hour making daily chores difficult. Power transmission wires are so low, that parents fear for the safety of their children. Apart from the issue of cleanliness, residents say that car parts are also being stolen on a regular basis here.
Satvinder Prakash, a resident, said, "When we purchased houses here, we thought life would be easy compared to the Haryana Urban Development Authority sectors. But the ground reality is very different."
A UPN Property Management spokesperson, the property management authority, said, "More than half of the South City 1 roads have been resurfaced and repaired in the past few months. The remaining roads would be repaired and resurfaced in the coming months. For water, even we rely on Huda. So, there is no lapse from our side.” Commenting on the poor condition of tress in the area, the spokesperson said, "Regular anti-termite treatment is done in the area. It was carried out in November last year and the next is scheduled for this month."
