Around 4,000 workers, supported by more than a dozen trade unions of the Gurgaon-Manesar-Bawal auto belt, held a protest rally here on Wednesday to press for their demands.
National leaders like Gurudas Dasgupta of the Communist Party of India and Harbhajan Singh Sidhu, general secretary of Hind Mazdoor Sabha, led the rally.
The primary demands were re-instatement of sacked workers of Maruti Suzuki at the Manesar plant, settlement of the wage hike issue at the Hero MotoCorp’s Gurgaon plant and resumption of production at a medical equipment firm, Eastern Medikit.
The workers had planned the rally in front of the deputy commissioner’s office at the Mini Secretariat but the district administration did not give permission so they gathered at the Leisure Valley ground.
Sub-divisional magistrate Satyendra Duhan and senior officials of the labour department met the agitating workers. However, the workers refused to call off the stir.
