The income tax department is planning to launch self-operated information kiosks at its Gurgaon office which will help taxpayers to access any information related to filing of returns.
“We want to create a single information point for the taxpayers. The Gurgaon centre would be one of the best in the coming times. The software would solve all the tax related queries and problem faced by people. The time spent by a taxpayer with an official for seeking information would drastically come down,” DS Kalyan, income tax commissioner (Gurgaon range), said.
Meanwhile, the department formally launched a centralised — ASK (Aayakar Seva Kendra) — software at its three computer systems on Monday. With the help of this software, operators would be able to retrieve information about taxpayers on the ground floor of the office.
Earlier, the taxpayers had to go to the fifth floor to get the same details. The office now also has a waiting longue for the elderly, physically challenged and women.
"These days, the confidence of the taxpayers is growing. We have 1.5 lakh taxpayers and many file returns online too," said Shashi Kajle, additional commissioner.
A helpline number would soon be announced for the taxpayers. Besides, corporate firms would also benefit as a representative will collect the forms and get the ITR filed. A separate officer would be deployed for bulk filing — for 500 individuals. Also, an individual will now be able to find his jurisdiction officer by entering his pan card number.
