The woman who had alleged that she was raped by the deputy mayor of Gurgaon has now accused him of offering her money and a flat to take back the complaint. She also said she is being threatened by him.
The 36-year-old single mother approached police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk and told him that she was being constantly threatened by deputy mayor Parminder Kataria.
The victim said she had recently been offered Rs 2 crore and a flat by Kataria to take back her complaint.
The victim also said she had back-tracked on her complaint on Tuesday under pressure, after Kataria threatened to kill her and her children.
The victim said Kataria visited her on October 25 and 26. He offered her Rs 35 lakh and a flat but she refused to accept. He then offered her Rs 2 crore and a flat to retract her complaint.
The victim also questioned the investigation of the Gurgaon police and alleged that the police were not taking appropriate action against Kataria. He has not been arrested though a complaint was registered against him two weeks ago, she said.
“We have assigned a special police team to investigate the matter. The victim is also being provided security after she gave her complaint,” assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Hawa Singh said.
On October 24, the woman accused Kataria, who is also a BJP worker, of sexually harassing her by making false promises of marriage.
She also told the police that two of his friends had threatened her of dire consequences if she complained to anyone. The charges against Kataria also include criminal intimidation.
The woman further mentioned that Kataria had also presented her an engagement ring and proposed her marriage, but failed to divorce his wife.
According to the police sources, Kataria and the victim were in a live-in relationship since the past six months. She had befriended him a couple of years ago when she used to visit the deputy mayor’s office for work.
