Farmers agitating for return of their land acquired in 2006 on Sunday got support from the newly-formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal.
Farmers, under the banner of the Kisan Sangarsh Samiti, have been staging a protest at Garoli village, demanding return of their land which was acquired for setting up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
The SEZ plan has now been shelved and the Haryana government is in talks with the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) for taking back the land. Farmers fear the government may sell the plots to private developers.
AAP national Secretary Pankaj Gupta and Ramesh Yadav met the farmers and extended the party's support.
Farmers say that the land should be returned to them as no industrial activity has been carried out since 2006.
"We were promised that one member from each family will get a job in the industries which were to come up in the SEZ. We have lost not just land but the prospect of development,"said Nathu Ram, ex-sarpanch from Mahomandpur village.
