Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has decided to shift the statute of Dr Bhim Rao Amebdkar, located at Badshahpur chowk, to an adjacent plot by taking into confidence the society that is maintaining the structure.

This will ensure that the last hurdle in the way of Southern Peripheral Road is removed. The building and statue at the crucial junction were proving an impediment to not only the SPR but also to the elevated stretch being planned on Sohna Road.

The authority has assured that by the middle of June, the road will in top shape and ready for use.

The decisions came after Haryana PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh and Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav on Friday visited the chowk and inspected the spot where the statue would be shifted.

Apart from that, the urban authority will be taking up special repair of the Southern Peripheral Road from this crossing to Rambir ki Dhani as the stretch is in a bad shape, Huda officials said.

HUDA has also fixed a target of May 15 for shifting the statue and work on installation will start within the next few days. Narbir Singh also said if the society maintaining the statue and the building required any financial grant or assistance to construct a new building, then he will ensure that funds are made available for the same.

“We have decided to shift the statue and a plot of 900 square yards has been allotted for this purpose nearby. An inspection was conducted on Friday and the PWD minister also assured us that funds would be made available, if the society needs it, for building an Ambedkar Bhavan,” Yadav said.

To ensure that the road between Sector 66-67, which shall connect the Golf Course Extension Road with Sohna Road is completed soon, the Huda administrator also issued instructions that those structures which are outside the purview of the high court stay order be removed at the earliest.
