Giving more power to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) instead of controlling decisions from state capital Chandigarh is the way forward for solving the Millennium City's civic woes, stakeholders underlined at the Hindustan Times' Haryana Conclave "Leaderspeak @HT", held in Gurgaon.

"While the municipal corporation is an elected body, it doesn't have the necessary power, especially financial powers on approving and carrying out infrastructure projects, most of which are stuck due to approvals pending with financial commissioner in Chandigarh," MCG councillor from ward number 30 Nisha Singh pointed out before the panelists.

MCG councillor Singh said that not more than Rs 200 crore of the total annual budget allocation of Rs 500 of the corporation gets spent due to delay in approval for various projects from Chandigarh.
