A man, who allegedly kidnapped a one-year old girl from outside a hut on Tuesday was arrested by a team of Gurgaon police on Friday. The police team was searching for the kidnapped child since the last two days spotted the accused,Manjeet, on Friday along with the girl near Shikohpur village. He was arrested on the spot.

The parents of the minor girl, who were with the police team, immediately identified their girl, which helped in the arrest of the accused. He was taken on two-day police remand. The girl’s family were daily wage workers at a construction site and lived in a labour tenement.

The father had alleged that a worker from a nearby site had kidnapped his daughter.

Police said when the parents went for work at the construction site, the girl was looked after by an elderly man in the tenement.

The father in his complaint said that Manjeet was drinking with his friends outside the hut. Police said when the little girl suddenly woke up, the caretaker went to the hut and found her lying on Manjeet’s lap. When he asked Manjeet about it, the accused allegedly said he was trying to put her to sleep.

A manhunt was also launched at several places in the city, including the bus stand and the railway station. “The accused will be produced in the court tomorrow,” said Ravinder Kumar, spokesperson, Gurgaon police.
