The police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man on charges of raping his 12-year-old daughter.
The police said the minor, who studies in class 6, was sent for medical examination, which confirmed that she was five months pregnant.
The police said the accused hails from Bihar and works as a daily-wage labourer with a private company. He lived with his family in a rented accommodation in a village in Manesar.
According to the police, on Wednesday, the girl complained of acute stomach pain to her mother. She was then taken to a Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Manesar where the doctors found that she was pregnant.
The girl’s mother then reported the matter to the police, who recorded the minor’s statement before a judicial magistrate. In her statement, the girl said that her father has been raping her, the police said.
The police then registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code at Manesar police station. The accused was then arrested and sent to jail.
“The doctors at ESIC hospital concluded that she was five months pregnant. We registered an FIR on the basis of the girl’s statement. The accused will be produced before the court for further proceedings,” said Jadish Prasad Yadav, station house officer (SHO), Manesar police station.
