City police is in the process of collecting forensic and circumstantial evidence against the three accused involved in the Manesar gang-rape and murder. The officers have also been grilling the three accused since they were taken on two-day remand in a bid to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The three accused are also likely to be taken to places they visited during and after the incident.

The victim has identified the three accused, the police said.

Manish Sehgal, ACP and the spokesperson for Gurgaon police, said they will gather the mobile phones of the accused and other items that they used during the crime and till the time of their arrest.

“We are collecting evidence very meticulously to ensure a foolproof case is built against the accused. It is important to ensure conviction,” he said.

On May 29, the three accused had given lift to the victim and her 8-month-old daughter as she waited for a ride to her in-laws’ place in Khandsa village. However, after not finding her Khandsa address, they took her to a vacant plot in Sector 8 and raped her. Her daughter was choked to death.

The police said while grilling the accused they learned that the trio had gone to buy food and were sipping beer when they found the 19-year-old waiting for public transport. They offered her a lift in their Tata Magic van and she decided to board the vehicle.

They drove her to Khandsa, but could not locate her in-laws’ place. They then took her back to Manesar where took turns to rape her.

Dharmvir Singh, ACP, Manesar, said that a chargesheet will be submitted in court within a month.

“We are trying to gather all the evidence at the earliest so that the chargesheet could be presented within a month,” Singh said.
