The Haryana government on Wednesday transferred the deputy commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), YS Gupta, to Chandigarh, amid a wave of criticism against the civic body over alleged irregularities in implementation of advertising policy and drive against illegal construction activities.
The transfer order came after a high-level meeting on Tuesday, which was presided over by Ram Niwas, financial commissioner-cum-principal secretary urban local bodies, Haryana.
However, Niwas denied that the transfer is a repercussion of the allegations.
Gupta has been working as deputy commissioner since the corporation was formed in 2008.
In April 2009, he was also made joint commissioner. Before June 2008, Gupta was working in capacity of executive engineer with the municipal committee. Gupta has been relieved from his current post and will join the new office on Thursday.
“The government has to assign me a post,” Gupta said, adding that he has always tried his best to curb illegal construction activities and completed the tasks assigned to him.
