The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has received more than a dozen applications from both developers and individuals for approval of group housing and commercial structures in old and new Gurgaon. The civic body will discuss the matter in its general body meeting on Friday.

The MCG has received applications — most of them for areas in old Gurgaon — from 15 proposed group housing and commercial projects, eight of which are for group housing by developers.

If the applications are approved, the civic body stands to earn interest running into over Rs 50 crore from three developers alone who have declared an area of around 16 acres for development of group housing structures.

“We are in favour of allotting as much land as we can for group housing, but some councillors may think otherwise. The MCG will stand to benefit enormously from this scheme. Moreover, the group housing scheme will counter the problem of unauthorised colonies,” said Gurgaon mayor Vimal Yadav.

Yadav added that in Friday’s meeting he would discuss the issue of extending the payment window for house tax so as to improve collection.
