According to officials in the district administration, this is the first time that a mobile application has been created for civic elections in Haryana.

The ‘vote 4 MCG’ lets a voter search for the exact location of polling booths or let him/her know his or her voting booth only they enter their details.

A voter needs to fill the details of his or her voter identity card number, father’s name and gender.

Following this, the details of their wards, polling booth number and booth location will be shown.

“The mobile app makes it easy for voters to locate their booth and has been designed to ensure better turnout this year,” D Suresh, divisional commissioner said.

The app is only available on the Android platform and can be downloaded free of cost. Apart from being made available on Google Playstore, a link to the app has also been put up at the district website gurgaon.gov.in

According to district officials, the limits of each ward in the map have been updated in line with the delimitation order.

The app, however, is not linked to Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping and will rely on the boundary maps fed by the software developers while sending locational details to a voter.

The app was built jointly by a team of engineers from Chandigarh and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in Gurgaon.

A similar app, ‘True Voter’, was launched for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections held earlier this year.

As per details released by the Election Commission, 5.60 lakh people are eligible to cast their votes in the MCG elections.
