Against the stipulated single name board, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has given ‘special favours’ to some councillors by putting up three such boards costing Rs 28,142 each. An RTI reply by the MCG in this regard reveals that it spent over Rs 15 lakh to prepare name boards for 35 councillors. At the rate of Rs 28,142 each, 35 such boards should have cost Rs 9,84,970 .
“The MCG has not explained or given details as to which councillors have got more than one name board,” said Jagjit Singh Walia, the RTI applicant.
A Punjab and Haryana High Court order of September 2012 prohibits signboards, hoardings, neon sign boards, advertisement boards on main roads and inside lanes in Punjab and Haryana.
