To fill vacant posts and speed up development work, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has begun the process of hiring.
A private agency will be entrusted with the task of selecting the right candidates. The newly-appointed MCG commissioner, Ashok Sangwan, on February 22 ordered filling of vacant posts through e-tendering. The move came less than a week after HT reported on February 19 about piling up of files due to shortage of workforce in the corporation.
The commissioner has ordered hiring of as many as 172 candidates for various posts, including those of junior engineer, computer operator, assistant, peon, fire men, driver and clerk.
The commissioner said the hiring process will be completed the earliest because several departments are facing acute shortage of staff.
Referring to fire service, an MCG official said that the corporation badly needs at least 51 staff in the department at clerk and driver levels. Many files are pending in the fire department due to delay in clerical work.
The official said that the corporation needs several junior engineers for various MCG zones and wards. The computer section also has the same situation. The official said at least five computer operators and seven assistants are badly required for speedy disposal of data works.
The MCG commissioner said that these posts should be fulfilled by outsourcing the respective jobs to reputed companies.
“We would go for competent personnel and good companies at all levels of jobs as we need fast and quick disposal of works in enforcement, taxation, fire service, licence, and computer section,” said the commissioner. The MCG will accept online application till March 5.
