According to sources, the team with two woman officials and accompanied by a team of the Gurgaon police, including station house officer (SHO) of the city police station Babu Lal, visited the Gurgaon residence of Gadoli’s girlfriend Divya Pahuja. Divya is one of the accused in the fake encounter case.

Divya, a struggling model, has a house in Baldev Nagar locality. She had managed to evade questioning on two earlier occasions when the Mumbai police went looking for her at her houses in Gurgaon and Delhi. The team is also looking for Sonia, Divya’s mother who was in touch with her daughter when she allegedly accompanied Gadoli to Mumbai.

“She disappeared a month ago but her facebook posts and web check-ins were updated on May 27. We could not find her at home,” said a member of the SIT team. Divya holds the key to the case as she was the only witness to whatever happened inside the hotel room where Gadoli was gunned down in the alleged encounter.

Meanwhile, the Gurgaon police maintained silence about the Mumbai team’s visit. SHO Babu Lal also denied that he escorted Mumbai police officials.

The team also reached the residence of Manoj Binder, brother of Gadoli’s rival gangster Binder Gujjar, in Laxmi Garden area off Pataudi road in Gurgaon but could not find him. Binder has been named as one of the accused in the FIR registered against eight persons, including five Gurgaon police officials, by SIT in Mumbai.

A metropolitan magistrate’s court in Mumbai adjourned the announcement of the verdict on SIT’s appeal to issue non-bailable warrants against the accused officials of the Gurgaon police on Wednesday. Sources said that the SIT is waiting for the arrest warrants to decide its future course of action.

Both the Mumbai and the Gurgaon police have been contesting each other’s claims over the authenticity of the encounter that killed gangster Sandeep Gadoli at a hotel in Andheri East on February 7. The Gurgaon police officials maintain that they killed him in retaliatory fire. The Mumbai police, based on the family’s claim, allege that the encounter was staged.
