The Haryana Power Distribution Corporations (discoms) — Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) — have decided to allow payment of arrears in instalments.
The sub-divisional officer concerned can accept the payment of arrears on the condition that the 50% amount is paid in the first instalment.
The number of instalments can be two for arrears up to Rs. 10,000, three for up to Rs. 30,000, four for up to Rs. 50,000, five for up to Rs. 2 lakh and eight instalments for above R2 lakh.
Chairman and managing director, DHBVN and UHBVN, Devender Singh, said, “If consumers pay for the electricity they consume as per the cost of supply, there will be no hurdle in supplying power for 20 hours a day. There is no shortage of electricity but the power distribution utilities should have sufficient money to purchase.”
Singh said consumers — who were defaulters as on June 16, 2005, and could not opt for the Bill Waiver Scheme would be given another opportunity.
As per the scheme, if the defaulters pay off the principal amount of bills pertaining to the period from June 17, 2005 in one go, all pending bills, pertaining to the period up to June 16, 2005, the entire late payment surcharge will be waived off.
The benefit can be availed up to March 31, 2013. Singh also urged consumers, who had not opted for the scheme, to avail this opportunity to get the default amount waived off.
