The Gurgaon residents and corporate employees have got used to the second phase of the odd-even road rationing scheme underway in Delhi, thanks to flexible working hours, carpools and an array of private transport options.
The corporate firms, which have a large share of Delhi-based employees, have used all means to provide options to work seamlessly so that the road rationing scheme does not hamper the daily affairs.
Firms such as Maruti, DLF Ltd, Convergys and Hero, which have hundreds of employees travelling from different parts of the NCR, are organising carpools. The companies are also helping employees to create a data base and connect people living in the same areas.
Maruti has allowed flexible work hours for its employees. “The organisation is promoting carpooling among our employees. We have also made work timings flexible so that the road rationing scheme does not affect our employees ,” a company spokesperson said.
Firms such as Mahindra Comviva are tying up with carpooling companies to provide smooth commuting options for their employees and those working in nearby firms. Through the Orahi carpooling app, executives can share a ride with employees of any company in the vicinity or get dropped at the nearest metro station .
Senior VP and head of HR of Mahindra Comviva Sandyp Bhattacharya says, “We believe in contributing towards any environmental cause, be it arranging for company transport to curtail the car density on road or tying up with an organisation such as Orahi. For people who travel long distances for work, this is a safe, easy and convenient option. In the current scenario, we have ensured that our employees get convenient travel options either through our cabs or through a carpool facility like this, thereby helping to reduce the carbon footprint.”
Roposo fashion social network is providing free metro cards to employees who commute by their cars and also reimburse the taxi fare to employees for whom metro stations are not accessible.
“To help our employees during the odd-even days, we are creating a carpool/ride-share list so that employees can commute easily and safely. Employees, who use their cars, are given free metro cards and we will reimburse the taxi fare if metro stations aren’t easily accessible,” Mona Goyal, head of HR,Roposo, says.
Companies such as Nagarro, Incedo, Snapdeal and Makemytrip, which have a combined employee base of over 9000, have arranged for CNG shuttle buses for employees commuting inter-city.
“The firm has replaced several cabs with CNG buses. The buses will help us commute comfortably during the 15-day road rationing scheme,” an employee of Nagarroo said.
