One more week left for voluntary disclosure

Consumers using power more than sanctioned load still have a week to get their additional consumption authorized under a special scheme launched by the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).

As per the voluntary disclosure scheme (VDS) launched in August last year, the discom will not impose any penalty if a consumer applies for additional load of electricity which is being consumed illegally. The scheme ends on September 30.

"After this month, a massive campaign will be launched to detect unauthorized extension of load and heavy penalty would be imposed on the erring consumers," a DHBVN spokesman said on Sunday.

He said that extra use of electricity is the main reason behind interruptions in power supply, low voltage, tripping, breakdowns, and damage to transformers. The offenders will have to face heavy penalty under the Electricity Act.

Unless the distribution company keeps a tab on extra power consumption, it is difficult to make plans of augmentation so as to increase capacity, the spokesman said.
