Actors Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan have reportedly been issued a ration card from the town of Pataudi.
While sources in the administration have confirmed the development, the star couple has denied it.
The district administration confirmed that it received an application from the couple in July and that the card was issued in the same month. The latter, however, claimed ignorance about any such development.
“We have verified all credentials and have issued ration cards to the couple. They have provided all required documents to our office,” said Dilabar Singh, district food and supply officer.
An affidavit has also been submitted stating that the couple does not have any other ration card in any part of the country.
The food and supply department also confirmed that the previous ration cards were cancelled before issuing the fresh one. Earlier, Kareena had a ration card issued in Mumbai, while Saif had one registered in New Delhi.
“The ration cards which were earlier issued in Mumbai and New Delhi to the two were cancelled. We have received the terminated documents as well. As Khan holds property in Pataudi, the couple was issued ration cards by our department,” said Singh.
When Saif was asked if they had cancelled their Mumbai and New Delhi ration cards, he said, “There is no cancellation of ration card from my side. There might be some kind of application for something in Pataudi because I have a house there also. I don’t know exactly what it could be that could have been applied for in Pataudi but I don’t have anything to do with Gurgaon.”
“I don’t live in Delhi even though my mother (Sharmila Tagore) does. I have my houses only in Pataudi and in Mumbai and only my mother is in New Delhi,” he said.
“I am assuming she (Sharmila Tagore) has her ration card in New Delhi and I am pretty sure I have mine in Mumbai. There must have been some paperwork in Pataudi, maybe an Aadhar card or something could have been applied for in Pataudi and I am not even sure about that. However, I am very sure it has nothing to do with Gurgaon. We are still very much based in Mumbai and are not planning to shift,” he said.
Kareena Kapoor also denied the report and said there is no truth in the matter. “The report is absolutely untrue and baseless,” Kareena’s spokesperson said.
The district administration of Gurgoan said that they have no idea about the incident and will find out the details. “We will find details regarding the issue on Monday,” said TL Satyaprakash, deputy commissioner, Gurgoan.
Saif was christened the 10th nawab of Pataudi in 2011 and has been visiting the Ibrahim Pataudi palace frequently since his marriage to Kareena in 2015.
