A master pipeline connected to the Sector 51 water boosting station, which had developed fresh leakages and needed repair work, disrupted water supply to the city’s northern sectors on Friday.

The Haryana urban development authority (Huda) had to stop supply from the Chandu Budhera Water Treatment Plant (WTP) for initiating repair work on Thursday. The repairs were completed in the wee hours of Friday.

Owing to the repair work, normal water supply could only be restored on Friday evening.

The residents in sectors 41, 42, 44, 45, 55, 56, 57 and 58 had to fall back on private tanker operators to meet their daily needs for as long as the normal groundwater supply was disrupted.

“Over, the last two months water supply has been irregular and unreliable. Hence, I had no option but to rely on the services of a private tank operator to ensure enought supply to meet our day-to-day needs. The groundwater supply was only restored on Friday,” Santosh Khyalia, a resident of Sector 56, said.

For some residents, the long hours of power cuts on Thursday resulted in water woes for two days.

“Though the supply was normal on Thursday, we could not fill the tanks as the pumping sets couldn’t be switched on because of power cuts. Although there was uninterrupted power supply today, water supply was disrupted,” Shoaib Baig, a resident of Sector 58, said.

HUDA officials said although the repair work was completed in the morning, it took several hours for water to be pumped from the water treatment plant.

“Owing to high water pressure, the master pipeline valve had developed leakages. Officials fixed the pipeline in the morning, but it took a few hours to restore normal supply from the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant,” a senior Huda official said.

The master water pipeline had developed leakages in its valve last month as well and supply from the treatment plant had to be stopped.

Water Pipeline near district court develops leakages

Owing to construction of an underpass at Rajiv Chowk, the valve of a water pipeline located next to the advocate’s parking at the district court developed leakages on Friday. The area was flooded and the construction work was hampered significantly.
