Police arrest wanted criminal from Jharsa

A man wanted in several cases of murder and robbery was arrested from Jharsa village, the police said on Sunday.

Mahesh, alias Attack, was arrested on Saturday by a team of officers from Sector 40 police station after a tip off.

"During interrogation, he confessed that he had been in Goa for the past few months and had come to Gurgaon to meet his family on Friday," a senior police officer said.

Mahesh was wanted in several cases. He failed to appear in a city court despite several notices. He was declared proclaimed offender by the court two months back.

Another criminal Summit Rana alias Sunny who was carrying a bounty of R1 lakh was arrested recently when he returned from Singapore. The police said Rana used to visit Singapore frequently on a fake passport.

On December 24, the city police had arrested Ajay Kumar who has been facing four murder charges, including that of Kurukshetra University's students' union president. He was also carrying a reward of R1lakh on his head.

Earlier on December 12, another wanted criminal Ajay Singh was arrested. He had been hiding in Chandigarh for the past seven years. He along with one of his family members had murdered two men of village Rathiwas (Bilaspur) in 2005, the police said.

Last year, the city police had arrested 175 criminals, including 15 from the most-wanted list.
