The Gurgaon police have failed to zero in on a group of carjackers, who have created havoc on the National Highway-8 for the past many days. The miscreants — zooming about in a black Mahindra Scorpio SUV — are involved in several carjacking incidents.
They rob people and flee with their vehicles near the Panchgaon crossing. In most of the cases, the gang members fled towards the Jaipur side after committing the crime. Surprisingly, the carjackers also managed to pass through the Kherki Daula toll plaza, where CCTV cameras have been installed.
Despite the sudden spurt in carjacking cases in the city, the police have failed to arrest the notorious gang operating on the NH-8. The sight of a black Scorpio SUV has come to hound residents, executives and employees of corporate houses returning home during the later night hours.
The recent incidents of carjacking have left an indelible impression on the mind of residents, especially those residing in Palam Vihar, Sohna Road and Sector 57. “While returning home from work last night, I saw a black Scorpio following my car,” said Jyoti Tulli, resident of Palam Vihar.
"I immediately called up my husband and informed him. But then I saw a family travelling in the car. It heaved a sigh of relief," added Jyoti. "I am scared that the gang members have not been arrested till now. It is dangerous for women to venture out alone," said Shraddha Madan, a BPO executive.
"I don’t drive alone these days. I’ve asked two of my colleagues to accompany me till my house. I had to take this step for my own safety," Shraddha added.
Meanwhile, police officials claimed that a number of police teams had been constituted and policemen were deployed in civil dress at various locations to nab the culprits.
"We are working on a strategy. We have deployed teams on the National Highway-8," said Vikas Dhankhar, DCP (crime).
"Officers from the special crime branch have also been deployed on the NH-8 during the late night hours," the DCP added. The cops have repeatedly claimed that they will soon nab the carjackers.
