The city police along with a private cab service installed breathalysers at the DLF Cyber Hub on Thursday evening. The move is aimed at checking drink driving in Gurgaon.
Four breathalysers have been installed at the entry/exit points of Cyber Hub. People can check their blood alcohol content (BAC). If the person’s BAC is higher than 0.03, they can take a cab home.
“The Gurgaon police have been committed to ensuring the safety of the city residents. We believe that Uber Breathalysers are a great innovation. These can help spread awareness against drinking and driving and improve road safety,” said Y Puran Kumar, joint commissioner of police, Gurgaon.
The police along with Uber will further approach bars and restaurants in the city to install breathalysers and promote safe driving.
“Gurgaon is the second city to launch Uber Breathalysers. Driving under the influence is one of the major causes of road accidents in the country and we are keen on building awareness against it. Through Uber Breathalysers, we let people know the body alcohol content in their body within seconds and urge them to take a reliable ride home, instead of driving themselves,” said Amit Jain, president of Uber India.
People can also avail a free first ride from Uber if their BAC is more than 0.03 by using the promo code DLF150.
