To protest the custodial torture of a Sohna resident, people of the village marched to the ACP’s office on Wednesday while the officer was drafting an FIR against the three suspended police personnel.

“We recorded the statement of victim Om Veer today. On the basis of his statement, we have started drafting an FIR against the three officers accused of torture,” ACP (Sohna) Hitesh Yadav told a 300-strong crowd that gathered outside his office.

Yadav also read out the medical report to the public. The report revealed that primary fissures had been found on various parts of the victim’s body.

Requesting anonymity, a doctor on the medical board that examined Om Veer said, “Injury marks were found on the victim’s rectum suggesting torture.”

Police commissioner Alok Mittal said, “The victim was not giving a statement earlier. As soon as he did today, we initiated action against the accused officers.”

Sources also told HT that though the police had registered a case, they might seek a second medical opinion over the issue to confirm the report.
The march was organised after a mega-panchayat met over the issue.

“We will not rest contented with the suspension of the three officers; we want them to be tried in court and their services terminated,” advocate Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, ex-president of the Gurgaon Bar Association, told the panchayat.

The panchayat members have decided to stage a dharna at the police commissioner’s office on Thursday.
