Miscreants posing as escorts of women at pubs and bars after midnight won’t be spared. The Gurgaon police kicked off a special drive starting Saturday to keep a tab on such people after 12 am. Pub and bars will have to keep the identity card of the escort, be it a taxi driver or a family member, accompanying a girl or woman after midnight.

Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal visited the MG Road’s mall stretch on the weekend. He has directed both the SHO’s of Sector 29 and DLF City Phase-2 to deploy extra cops with special emphasis on the MG Road. All liquor vends will have to down their shutters by 12 am. Traffic cops will be equipped with alcometers to catch hold of drunk people. 20 additional alcometers have been bought for this.

Alok Mittal told HT, “We are not restricting the movement of general people but we will not allow men in groups outside the malls. We have increased the police presence to ensure safety of women.”

Joint commissioner of police, Maheshwar Dayal on Tuesday, directed the cops to extend their night shifts by two hours and increase the police presence on the Mall Mile on MG road - the city’s notorious stretch, which has around 50 bars and clubs.

Sub-inspector Satish Dagar was appointed in-charge of the MG Road police post.

After the recent gang rape case, the Gurgaon police have increased vigilance.

The police have asked all the malls, pubs/bars not to exceed their time limit and not allow entry to anyone without their ID cards.

Special teams are assigned the task to check the pubs/bars after the deadline. Women cops would also be present on the road. Senior police officials would visit the Mall Mile on a daily basis.

The police have also made sure that no vehicles are parked on the MG Road and the service lanes.
