‘Pubs must relax stag-only rule’

The recent gang rape has shocked the entire National Capital Region (NCR).

The recent gang rape has shocked the entire National Capital Region (NCR).

We must look at the reason behind the sudden spurt in crime against women.

Apart from the notorious pubs in Gurgaon, has one noted the number of liquor vends that have been licensed in the city?

These remain open virtually round-the-clock.

We face difficulty buying medicines at night in case of an emergency but there is no problem in getting alcohol.

Incidentally, thanks to our skewed excise policies, liquor is cheaper in Haryana than in Delhi. Would not the Delhiites come to Gurgaon to buy their drinks?

I offer some solutions. Firstly, the pubs must relax the ‘stag only’ rule. It is the pub owners who encourage women escorts. Secondly, the media must not sensationalise. Thirdly, we need to have proper police patrolling on MG Road. Fourthly, there should be strict enforcement of pub and vend timings.

Principally, I am against a police state. Young people have a right to enjoy their lives with their own set of rules and values.
