The Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon Ltd (RMGL) is on course to start its operations by the set deadline of March 2013, according to RMGL officials, with a trail run being lined up for October 2012.
Work on the project is in final stage. The process of laying the tracks has already been started and it is expected to conclude soon, added RMGL officials.
“Trains are manufactured in China at the CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company Limited (CSR ZELC) – the biggest train manufacturing unit in China. The trains are arranged by the German company Siemens which has the contract for rolling stock,” said RMGL spokespersons, adding that mandatory static tests such as mechanical and electrical tests have also been done.
An RMGL official said that the dynamic test of the train is going on at the CSR ZELC test track and shall finish by the first week of July.
“After the pre-inspection test, the first train set will be shifted to the Shanghai port by July 10. The train sets will then take another month to reach the Mundra Port in Gujarat and the train will be brought to Gurgaon through surface transport in approximately 2 weeks, by mid-August. The trial run will commence on October 2,” said the official.
The state-of-the-art trains will be fitted with air-conditioning to cope with temperatures reaching 50°C or above. They will have a capacity of approximately 1000 passengers and a maximum speed of 80 kmph.
Sanjiv Rai, RMGL managing director, said, “We are ensuring that Gurgaon has the most modern metro system. We have taken all efforts to ensure that the Rapid Metro adds to the aesthetics of the city and becomes the pride of the people.”
