More than 100 angry residents of Sector 22B on Tuesday staged a demonstration against the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) for failing to ensure regular water supply to them.
The protesters blocked the main road of the sector after they did not get water for more than two days.
“There is no fixed time for water supply. Over 200 houses haven’t received water in the last two days. We have complained about this to the authorities but the problem continues,” said Bhim Singh Yadav, president, Sector 22B, RWA.
Residents say at times they get water in early morning hours.
“We have to leave the motor on for hours. Water is supplied to us for hardly an hour and it is so irregular that there have been days when we kept awake the whole night. This affects our daily routine and health,” said Naresh Kumar, another resident.
“I return from work at 7pm and have to remain awake all night to check for water supply,” said Aashima Arora, who works at AIIMS.
Residents have to depend on water tankers, which they say is unhealthy.
“We spend around R1,000 on each tanker. Its water is not potable but we do not have an option,” said Poonam Verma, a resident.
Talking about the cause of irregular water supply, Huda administrator Praveen Kumar said, “I have issued orders to the engineer concerned to look into the matter.”
“Huda has ensured timely water distribution to the area but there is a problem with the local distribution. Some locals overuse and obstruct water supply to others during the day because of which we have been forced to supply water at odd hours. We are trying to ensure timely supply,” said Huda executive engineer Kartar Singh.
