The residents of Sector 31 and traders of the area have offered to manage the market’s parking lot on their own after a meeting with Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) officials on Thursday. The officials have asked the residents’ representatives to give an undertaking that they were capable of manning the parking lot.

The protests by the residents and market association members of sectors 31, 40 and 56 against the paid parking system introduced recently in the local market area had turned ugly on Tuesday when the irate residents brought down the barriers put up in the parking lots.

“On Thursday, the RWA president and vice-presidents, along with the residents of sectors 31, 40 and 56, held a meeting with Huda estate officer Narender Singh Yadav and gave him a letter saying that we will manage the parking system on our own,” said MC Yadav, the RWA president.

The shopkeepers have been complaining that the shoppers were being charged parking fees though they had paid for the parking area along with the cost of the shops. “If the authority does not listen to our problems, we will launch a larger protest. If anything untoward happens to the market association members and the residents, it is Huda only that will be held responsible for it,” Yadav added.
