The Haryana Power Utilities, which took a tough stand against developers who had not set up sub-stations in their respective localities, has softened its stance of late.

The residents of New Gurgaon had demanded setting up of sub-stations to tide over the power crisis in summer.

On the demand of residents, the chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of Haryana Power Utility, Devender Singh, had assured to hold a meeting with the developers and officials of the town planning department on September 27.

Though the CMD held meeting with the officials of his own department on Tuesday, he refused to spare time for the residents.

“Since the town planning department grants licence to developers and as per the licencing condition, the developers are bound to set up sub-stations as they collect internal development charges (IDC) from buyers at the time of booking of flats. The CMD had promised to take the developers to task,” said a member of the Gurgaon Citizens' Council (GCC), which represents New Gurgaon.

However, an official in the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) said the CMD had asked the director operation of DHBVN, SK Sachdeva, to get in touch with the town and planning officials to look into the issue.

“The developers collected money from every buyer at the time of booking of flats in the name of internal development charge which includes setting up of 11kv, 33kv and 66kv sub stations,” said VK Srivastav, a resident of South City.

DLF, Sushant Lok, South City, Sun City, Ardee City, Malibu Towne and other localities are in need of upgrading power infrastructure and setting up 66kv, 33kv and 11kv sub-stations.

“We will hold a meeting with the developers,” said Sanjiv Chopra, superintending engineer (SE) DHBVN, Gurgaon.
