A 48-year-old man was arrested and sent to 14 days judicial custody on Tuesday for an alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old girl on Pataudi Road, near Sector 10 in Gurgaon.
The accused, identified as Subhash Chander of Patli village in Pataudi, has been charged under Section 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to Gurgaon police, the alleged crime took place while the victim was playing outside her house in a slum area near Pataudi Road on Monday night.
Chander, who lived in a rented room in Pratap Nagar, worked as a security guard at a vacant plot owned by a local Congress leader near Pataudi Road. According to police, he noticed the young girl playing outside her home while on duty, and lured her to a temporary room on the plot with the promise of chocolates. He then disrobed her and forced her to indulge in oral sex. The victim began screaming for her mother, and was heard by a 14-year-old boy playing nearby.
“The neighbours rushed to the temporary room and caught hold of the accused. He managed to flee from the spot, but later was arrested from his rented room,” said Hawa Singh, assistant commissioner of police, crime.
The victim’s mother was inside the house at the time, having earlier returned from Sector 10A where she works as domestic help. The victim’s father, a rag-picker, was away.
