Ace international shooter Varsha Tomar’s husband, Sooraj Choudhary, claimed on Thursday that he was being framed by his estranged wife, who allegedly has an affair with a Gurgaon police SHO. Choudhary, who is out on bail, has been accused of harassing his wife for dowry.
In a letter to Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal, Choudhary has accused Tomar of deserting him and levelling false charges of dowry harassment against him and his mother.
Chaudhary, a Noida-based lawyer, claimed that he was in a Jaipur court on April 21 for a hearing contrary to Tomar’s accusation in her FIR that he beat her up while she had gone for her practice sessions on that day.
On June 1, a day after he was sent to 14-day judicial custody over allegations made by Tomar, a Gurgaon court granted him bail. In his bail application, he had submitted his mobile call details to prove that he was in Jaipur on that day.
The 30-year-old shooter had on May 29 registered an FIR against her husband and mother-in-law at the DLF City Phase-1 police station for dowry harassment, criminal intimidation and criminal breach of trust. She had accused him of stopping her from taking part in sporting activities. He was arrested the same day.
Tomar, who has participated in 34 national and international shooting events and won eight gold, five silver and 15 bronze medals, said she was forced to stay indoors for several days and not allowed to practice.
She has denied all allegations made by her husband and said that she would take legal action against him for defaming her.
